Experience
Previous wheel experience is required.
In this 10 week course you will learn the foundations of plaster mold making and slip casting. Students will learn plaster safety and mixing, how to determine the best type of mold for a form, how to create several types of molds including slump molds, one-part molds, and two-part plaster molds.
All basic mold making materials including plaster, buckets, mixers, and face masks will be provided. (there may be some supplemental items that will need to be purchased during the session.) Students will be responsible for providing their own items for casting and will have access to a wheel for throwing if desired. An email will be sent prior to the start date with more information on how to determine what forms are appropriate for each type of mold.
Open studio
Open studio hours will be offered every week, after the first week of class plus an additional few open studios after the session has ended to complete glazing. Open Studio will be non-instructional studio time for enrolled students to work on their projects. Enrollment for open studio days will open one week prior.
